Sylvain Yeatman-Eiffel

Sylvain Yeatman-Eiffel was born in Paris in 1943. He has always been a painter, creating fabrics for fashion designer Christian Dior, designing contemporary furniture and exhibiting regularly since 1969. Born in the southern United States through his father. He is the direct descendant by his mother of the great builder Gustave Eiffel. From the sixties when he practices an abstraction whose inspiration is most often vegetal, he keeps the material (a secret of the painter) treated today in slight relief to accentuate the contrasts, the depth and the fresco aspect, but always heightened with an oil medium. He is a fierce opponent of acrylic.

His favorite subjects: shadows on the walls, reflections in the water, the breaking of the waves combining dream and reality to encourage rest and meditation; the multiple variations of the world's water lilies; Kythira Citadel; the theme of ruins, dear to Piranese; a series of odalisques revisiting the great classics from Cranach, Titien, Raphaêl, Matisse, Picasso, Foujita and Hockney.

His latest works are a tribute to his illustrious ancestor Gustave Eiffel: a series of 36 views of the Eiffel Tower, as the great Japanese painter Hokusai once did with Mount Fuji, divided into three themes: focal points, reflections and tributes; and the "Visions" series. In April 2019, during Paris Fashion Week, Sylvain was struck to see strange reflections of the Eiffel Tower on the facade of an ephemeral building built by the fashion house Saint-Laurent on the Trocadero basin. The Tower was diffracted by the mirrors of the facade in a hundred distorted and sometimes inverted reflections. The artist wanted to immortalize these fascinating - and ephemeral - optical phenomena.
