Biography
Camille Virot is a French ceramist born in 1947 in Franche-Comté. He studied at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Besançon and then at the Higher School of Decorative Arts of Strasbourg. In 1972, he opened a workshop in Haute-Provence. He lives in La Rochegiron.
Camille Virot combines ceramics with other materials. In 1972 he began practicing Raku ceramics, which is a particular enamelling technique developed in Japan during the 16th century.
In addition to her work as a ceramist, Camille Virot organizes numerous courses and interventions in art schools.
In 1985, he presented with Pascaline Virot-Marini the "Dossiers ARgile", episodic publications on ceramics. It is also the beginning of a program of meetings between African poets and European ceramists, a program supported by the Ministry of Culture.
He was responsible for the exhibition "Poterie Nègre" which took place at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon.
