Biography
Hatem Akrout was born in 1955 in Sfax, Tunisia. It was in the 1980s that everything began with his meeting with the plastic photographer Olivier Rebufa, with whom he created a workshop-gallery.
He has exhibited numerous times in major galleries in France and Europe and has carried out several commissions for the cities of Aubagne, Martigues and Marseille.
Influenced by Matisse, Akrout sees in painting a freedom, he is more focused on the colour than on the painting. Hatem Akrout works on paper, wood, canvas or ceramic. Without abuse of material, without too crude demonstrative effects, his painting attracts by its simplicity.
