Reflet is a self-portrait. “When I gave myself up to this book, I was far from thinking that it would become the translation into images of my experience and my doubts of the moment. It was very difficult for me to bring this drawing to completion and it took me several months to get there, during which this woman changed her face several times. Without having programmed it, I drew between the lines, characters, animals, letters and symbols, illustrating my life course, my beliefs, my impotence... But the message of this woman, who shakes his hair and lets the birds of freedom harbingers of deliverance escape, is above all that of hope, courage and determination. Even if she turns her back on the birds, in my drawing, she does not despair that one day, after having faced the various inevitable fights of her life, she will find her dearest hope of a free life. This painting participated in the Art Capital Water Drawing and Painting Fair in Paris in 2019, as well as the London Art Biennale in July 2021 in London. Presentation
Valérie Abadie is a self-taught French artist.
She has been drawing since adolescence and has always shown a marked attraction for monochrome and automatic drawing.
Having started drawing with an ink pen, then with a ballpoint pen, his current tool is the pigmented ink marker called Fine Liner.
His favorite subjects are portraits, life scenes and the fantastic.
His personal way of approaching ink drawing may be reminiscent of the discipline of printmaking.
Although many of her drawings are inspired by real events, she inevitably swings into the imagination during her creations.
One could say that his works present us with "a false realism", the realistic aspect of the work being often accompanied by completely unreal details.
Journey
It was not until 2016 that Valérie Abadie decided to devote herself more to drawing.
She first obtained a distinction for three of her achievements, during the France competition of the Social Network Art Competition in San Francisco in 2016.
After a few local exhibitions, in 2017 and 2018, she began to participate in the Salon du Dessin et Peinture à l'eau de Art Capital as well as the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 2019 and 2020. She also participated in a group exhibition in a Barbizon Gallery.
She became a member of the Taylor Foundation in December 2019.
She is selected to participate in the London Art Biennale as well as the Centenary Exhibition Unlocked of the Graphic Society of Fine Art in London in June and July 2021.
She is also named in the "shortlist" of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 in London.
