Valérie Abadie

France Born in: 1965

Valérie Abadie is a self-taught French artist, born in 1965 in Tarbes.

Coming from a family in which artistic activity is strongly represented, she began very early to express herself on paper, under the eyes of her mother, a watercolor painter, who despite her experience, made the deliberate choice not to never intervene in the free drawing of his daughter.

As a teenager, her penchant for monochrome appeared in the pages of her school notebooks on which she drew in ink pen. For years she produced contour drawings and art brut drawings with surrealist looks, featuring plants, animals or imaginary characters.

In 1991, during a university internship in Madrid, she discovered in museums the works of the great Masters of world painting, until then seen only in books, and fell in awe of the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, Diego Velázquez , Francisco de Goya at the Prado Museum, then in front of those of Vasili Kandinski, Marc Chagall and Amedeo Modigliani, at the Reina Sofia Museum which, that year, hosted works from the Guggenheim New York Museum.

Returning to France in 1993, she began drawing for the first time with "fineliner" markers, with Chinese ink pigment, descendants of the Isographs, which would become her favorite tool. His subjects then evolve, and are oriented towards landscapes, gardens and interiors which allow him to experiment with new textures.

Solitary and dreamy, she devotes part of her free time to observe what surrounds her and takes the habit of engaging in numerous photographic shots. But, for more than twenty years, absorbed by her professional and family life, she draws little.

In 2016, freed from certain constraints, she entered a period of sustained creation and obtained a distinction for three of her works, during the France competition of the Social Network Art Competition in San Francisco in 2016. This allowed her work to stand out. be seen in the United States for a year, during an exhibition route in galleries and institutional public sites.

At that time, she decides to sign her work with the pseudonym Valoushka so as not to be confused with her mother who bears the same civil name. In 2017, she began developing large-format portraits that required months of work. At the same time, she began to participate in her first local group exhibitions in France and made her entry into Parisian Art Salons such as the Salon d'Automne and the Salon du dessin et peinture à l'eau by ART CAPITAL, as well as as a member, in the Taylor Foundation.

Steps

Valérie Abadie's works are constructed of parallel lines which intersect and overlap and whose intensity or closeness generate different shades of gray and movement.

At the base of each of his creations is an emotion, an encounter or a memory. “To be true" is also her watchword in each of the works she undertakes. Thus, despite a tedious technique, made of details, it is the story told that takes precedence. A real story always tinged with a dose of imagination. In short, a sort of unreal reality, born from the junction between his reading of the outside world and the expression of his inner world.

The translation on the sheet of this double perception gives an almost realistic visual result, obtained by taking improbable and surrealist paths. Spectators of his works often notice that there are two possible readings of his works, depending on whether they are viewed from afar or close.

Like a balancing act of lines, Valérie Abadie thus continues her journey in drawing, to share with us her mysterious vision of the world and of human beings.
