Biography

Born in Spain in 1978, Alberto Romero studied Fine Arts in Barcelona.

He graduated in 2004, before teaching drawing and anatomy in this renowned school.

Swaying between drawing and painting, Alberto Romero drew influences from great Spanish masters like Velázquez, but also other great contemporary painters like Antonio Lopez Garcia. His interest in the body and its proportions make his work look a lot like the one of the Swiss sculptor, Giacometti.

The topic which inspires him the most is himself. An inexhaustible theme, according to him as it's inaccessible and therefore encourages him to renew his painting constantly. A mysterious philosophy leads most of his artistic research like an infinite loop.

He is aware about his social status therefore Romero takes advantage of this privileged situation. He is fascinated by his surroundings, the real world gives free reins to his imagination. He sees the environment as a source of fear or admiration.

His paintings usually have a unique theme. Simple and basic objects are the main focus, right at the center of the image, on a refined canvas through shape and colors, highlighting pastel colors. Tomatoes, ham or even pumpkin are often in the limelight, in a simple composition, no embellishment through decor or background.

Alberto Romero exhibited for the first time in 2002 in Barcelona, then Madrid, Seville and finally Strasbourg and Geneva.
