For the October exhibition, Gallery Japanesque presents a Lost Village photographic series by Yasuo Kiyonaga. This series was photographed in the village of Nanmoku, in the prefecture of Gunma. The village in the heart of the mountain is being depopulated. Despite its history as a kitchen knife whetstone production village since the Muromachi period (14th century), the village has rapidly declined over the past 20 to 30 years, and now has no industry. The photographer recorded this village not only the current state but also trying to express the resentment or the causality which is in the culture and which continues here for 700 years with his technique of the composition of painting and photographs. Come and discover the history of Nanmoku village through the perspective of Yasuo Kiyonaga.
