Czech Artists
Barcelona From February 8, 2023 to February 26, 2023
The Czech Republic, the birthplace of these four artists, is proudly represented in Port Gallery's latest exhibition. The diverse collection of abstract paintings created by Andrea Ehret, Bedřiška Uždilová, Lucie Svoboda, and VeraD come together to showcase the unique artistic traditions and techniques of their shared cultural heritage. Despite the individualistic and intuitive approaches of each artist, the exhibition creates a cohesive atmosphere that transports viewers to a world of ethereal dreamscapes, vibrant colour combinations, and intricate layers of forms. By exploring the shared themes and artistic sensibilities of these Czech artists, Port Gallery is proud to present an exhibition that is at once diverse and unified, a celebration of the Czech artistic spirit.
Andrea Ehret’s ethereal paintings are layered with her own internal charges depicting her emotions and feelings. She draws on her studies of Art and Art Therapy practice, using intuition, expression, and gesture as tools for self-transformation. Each of Ehret's paintings follows the flow of energetic light and shade to create a balanced, harmonious, meditative whole. In this way, Ehret considers the act of painting to be a healing process.
Bedřiška Uždilová’s expressive paintings are based on her impressions and experiences, from non-typical parts of landscapes to observing human faces and the natural art of our environment. She invites the spectator to cooperate in discovering what is under the surface of everyday practice, becoming a witness of the fight for the uniqueness of art. Her paintings are skilfully aesthetic, with surprising and brisk colour combinations, variability of lines, and suggestive compositions. The motifs and themes are seemingly quite "civil," but in their background, are the concurrent existential feelings shared by many.
Lucie Svoboda's work is a striking amalgamation of influences and techniques, with each painting a composite piece. The canvases encapsulate and express the human experience in the same way that man has done for thousands of years. Her visceral colours and lines combine and contrast to create vast swirling bands of dream-like labyrinths or mesmerising geometric patterns that draw you in, surrounding you with her inspiration from every day to the profound.
VeraD's work maintains a constant chromatic gallantry and a sincerity in its messages. Her life as an artist in the world of painting goes hand in hand with her professional activity within the acrobatic show. For twenty years, and thanks to acrobatics, she travelled the five continents developing her sensitivity to the beauty she discovered. She cultivates the inspiration that comes to her indiscriminately to paint daily. Her current works of art flow from her memories, charged with an energy that has never left her. The key to her success is unequivocally originality.
The exhibition brings together the art of Andrea Ehret, Bedřiška Uždilová, Lucie Svoboda, and VeraD, who may work with different techniques and materials, but all share a common thread: their ability to use colour, form, and texture to explore the depths of abstraction, each reflecting their unique experiences, backgrounds, and inspirations.
