Olivier Bernard

Belgium

...Sometimes, between beauty and chaos, precise drawing and scratches, Olivier Bernard can translate an "awareness" of contemporary fractures... The artist defends values of freedom....

Biography

Through the fusion of the human and animal bodies, the artist questions the boundaries between species, bodies and natures.
This suggests that humans are no longer at the center, they share their existence with animals, plants, and decorations; everything becomes interdependent.

He has this desire to rewrite myths and to give back a place to the female or male body in symbolic stories where, ordinarily, they are often object, not subject.

Olivier Bernard was born in Paris in 1970.
He studied anthropology (Aix-en-Provence), art history (Brussels) and photography and design (École des Arts d'Ixelles).
He began drawing in 1986. In 1991, he increased his works in chalk and pastel, then in oil and acrylic.
He now lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
