Gonzalo Barco Flores

My work employs oil paint as the primary medium, taking advantage of its density and the textures that one can accomplish. Having said this, I consider myself a versatile artist, as I employ multiple techniques within painting and drawing.

My themes are mainly figurative, I enjoy creating expressive portraits. In a sense, I would like to act like a photographic camera that could capture the essence of the subject´s existence through my own plastic vision. 

Art simply motivates me, the mere action of picking up a brush and start painting, is my argument, but also inspires me to study and explore the approaches followed by other artists to ultimately find my own path. 

My first encounter with the plastic arts was as a young high school student, when I participated of some free workshops organized by our local parish. The instructor in those workshops was Adda Donato, I followed her guidelines and to these days I continue to listen to her advice. After these workshops, I continued my training at the workshops organized by the Arts School in El Alto. When the time came to go to the university, I decided to register myself for the Bachelor´s degree in Plastic Arts offered at the Public University of El Alto. I was invited to participate of art competitions and exhibitions while still a student at the University.
