Biography

João Paulo José da Silva, born in Fortaleza Ceará, graduated in history from Vale do Acaraú State University, is a self-taught plastic artist.

His work consists of contemporary art with techniques of woodcut, monotypes, painting and woodcarving.

His compositions refer to the Amerindian universe, caboclo and mystical. Noting that his work seeks to break with traditional dogmas of art.

His art is contemporary, escaping the conventional, having for influence the elements of nature, always referring to body painting and Indian spelling and personal introspection.

Currently, he is developing experimental prints, using elements found in his environment, examples, irons, wooden jackets, pieces of objects that can be explored artistically.

Woodcut is his strong suit, using wood found in the trash can and in tree pruning, he develops contemporary prints with themes related to forest culture and elements of nature.

Monotypes, a technique used with letterpress ink, explores the abstract and inner complexity with interpretations of the universe.

The paintings and woodcarvings explore the rustic, using raw wood, acrylics and typographic paint, showing a bit of the Native American and Caboclo universe.
