Presentation
Aurélie Djiena (1993 -) is a visual artist who lives and works in Douala, Cameroon.
His encounter with art was anything but obvious. Indeed, the dream of the young artist was to follow in the footsteps of her parents and to flourish in teaching. However, in 2012, it was at the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Douala in Nkongsamba that she was received. The passion then comes to him under the encouragement of Jean-Jacques Kanté, Hervé Youmbi and Kristine Tsala.
Aurélie specializes in the third year and decides, despite a teaching centered around realism, to turn to a subject that is close to her heart, the meeting of crafts and contemporary art. Her research became more precise in her master's degree as she aspired to give a new image to the practice of craftsmanship. His subject then turns to the revaluation of this ubiquitous practice among his ancestors. Weaving and basketry become the primary tools of his artistic language.
