Ernesto Jesus Garcia

Born in Havana in 1970. Graduated in 1989 from the Academy of Plastic Arts San Alejandro, Marianao, and in 1994 from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana.

From 1996 and for more than ten years he was professor of painting and drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts San Antonio de los Baños in Artemisa, Cuba. He then moved to Havana and became the assistant to Esterio Segura.

His work pays homage to the great Cuban figurative school. Through the series of black holes, Ernesto Garcia talks about the feeling of traveling through time when you are in Cuba, as if you were halfway between several eras. The artist, who works in Esterio Segura's studio, has participated in numerous group exhibitions such as “Si Tim Has Tim Vale” (Higher Institute of Art of Havana) during the 4th Havana Biennial in 1991 , “No Valen Guayabas Verdes” (Higher Institute of Art of Havana) in 1992, “The metaphors of the temple” (Center for the Development of Visual Arts of Havana) in 1993, “Erotic Green Humor” (Biennial of San Antonio de Los Baños, Artemisa) in 1995, “The Nuclear Collective” (Private Gallery Alternative Soho, Havana) in 2010, a permanent exhibition at the Residence Ella Cisneros (Havana) in 2016 and finally “La Noche Boca Arriba” (Gallery La Acacia, Havana) in 2018.

In 2019, he made a solo exhibition at Studio Esterio Segura in Havana.
