Biography

Philippe Sutter began his pottery apprenticeship at a leisure centre at the age of eleven, and the clay has been with him ever since. After graduating with a degree in psychology, he spent a decade working for a supplier of equipment and raw materials for ceramics and glass, where he became a ceramics technician, with a particular focus on porcelain.

After perfecting his throwing technique, he opened his own workshop in 2007, named after the Age of Enlightenment and the story told by his creations: the art of transporting ceramics from one era to another.

He has a particular fondness for the great pieces of 18th-century manufacture, and it is in this spirit that he brings his creations to life: the spirit of enlightenment, of the delight and elegance of ceramics.

In 2020, he created the character of Philippe II, Duke of Barr, Superintendent of the King's Porcelains, to represent his new collections.

No more than 50 artists in the world master this technique.
