Camélia Otero

France

"Camélia Otero's profound and spiritual message, in its chromatic saturation and primal matrix, evokes Modigliani and Picasso." Luca Beatrice, Art Critic and Essayist

Biography

“Figures barely sketched, surrounded by broad black lines"

as found in the Altamira cave or in the Lascaux caves,

The subjects are exclusively real people.

represented in their fleeting nature,

faces that tell stories of existential difficulties and complexities.

I like to define Camélia Otero's work as archaic and cellular.

The figures, sketched full-length, half-length, or frontally

are grouped on the surface with primitive, mask-like features

as if they were floating in a primordial cytoplasm.

An art that, in accordance with the artist's thinking,

becomes “the essence of origins" which identifies, in the Antiquity of the world,

the origin of humanity that shaped it.
