Robert Rigot

France • 1929 - 2023

It is difficult to ignore the name of Robert Rigot, who shines in the firmament of 20th-century French animal sculpture.

Biography

"Nature has become Robert Rigot's interlocutor in a dialogue with matter where space and light lead him to create a bestiary with lyrical forms and a humanity of classical expression, whose movement is integrated into the fullness of the volume.

An organic sculpture born from the chosen material in an intellectual approach that does not prevent the expression of the artist's sensuality.

Ultimately, bird, ant, or grasshopper establish themselves based on a free play of constructive lines deployed in space, of planes parcelled out with voids through which light traverses the volumes, animating them with a particular vibration.

For Robert Rigot, sculpture carries his questioning and his answer about the mystery of nature."
