Biography

Born in Istanbul in 1995 and currently living and working in Paris, Yaz Taşçı develops a figurative painting practice that explores the body as a site of memory, desire, transformation, and becoming. Emerging from an early interest in the body as a visible form, her work gradually shifted toward questions of what it means to inhabit a body and how experiences, emotions, vulnerabilities, and aspirations become embedded within it. For Taşçı, the body is not a fixed or self-contained entity but a permeable space shaped by lived experience, imagination, and continuous change.

Across her paintings, figures occupy psychologically charged environments suspended between dream and reality. Women, interiors, landscapes, flowers, swans, and recurring symbolic motifs appear not as narrative elements but as emotional structures through which questions of intimacy, belonging, identity, and self-construction are explored. Her compositions often emerge from personal memories, dreams, and subjective experiences, allowing the visible world to merge with imagined and symbolic dimensions.

Working with fluid brushwork, luminous tonal contrasts, and expressive distortions of form, Taşçı privileges atmosphere over description. Figures and spaces remain open, unstable, and transformative, resisting fixed interpretation. Bodies become extensions of emotional states, while rooms, furniture, and domestic settings function as repositories of memory and psychological experience. Throughout her practice, the search for a place of one's own—within the body, within space, and within the world—remains a recurring concern.

Rather than presenting identity as a stable condition, Taşçı approaches it as an ongoing process of becoming. Her paintings invite viewers into worlds where vulnerability, desire, intimacy, and transformation coexist, revealing the body not simply as something seen, but as something felt, imagined, remembered, and continuously remade.
