Fragola de la Vega

Born in Sicily and living in France since her teens, Francesca Sangiorgi, known by her artist name Fragola de la Vega, has developed a highly personal body of work in just a few years. This work is characterized by a controlled paradox, as noted in the March-April 2026 edition: "extreme formal precision placed at the service of a deliberately unbalanced world" where the boundaries between dream and reality dissolve.

In this universe drawn in black and white and lit by red moons, a stormy sea brings to the surface fragments of childhood memories or imagination: wandering boats, flying fish, palms, exuberant plants, warrior or adventurous female figures.

But her compositions are also very erudite, "permeated by mythological, historical, and sometimes literary references," she explains. "There are always references, even if I don't mention them. I offer a journey, a waking dream, without ever imposing a narrative. What interests me is the silent dialogue with the viewer."

Fragola de la Vega's art constitutes a form of gentle, almost ironic, resistance to hardship. It evokes in the viewer a feeling of both melancholy and rebirth.
