Daniel Favre

Daniel Favre was born in 1952 in Bron, France. He lives and works in Saint-Hélène du Lac in Savoie.

Trained as an engraver and a graduate of the Grenoble School of Fine Arts (1968), Favre has devoted himself to sculpture since 2002. An attentive engraver and meticulous draughtsman, he applies the delicacy and perfectionism of those worlds to create his sculptural works. 

Favre always starts from a living model. He sculpts an anatomically perfect subject in clay. Then, following a long process of reflection and anticipation, and under a set of projected lights, he carves its curves and finds its angles. His sculptures often have angular bodies, with taut edges imbued with movement, energy and vitality, as well as softer, more tender curves.

His techniques and materials renew a classicism in keeping with the tradition of modern sculpture at the beginning of the 20th century, et Favre explores theme of the body and human anatomy in various contrasting forms through a plastic treatment that places his work at the border between realism and abstraction.
