Nadejda Pastoukhova

Painter-engraver and member of the Taylor Foundation, Nadejda Pastoukhova was born in 1977 in Dubna, a city located in the Moscow region.

She began to learn painting from an early age. She then perfected her mastery of painting and drawing first at the Stroganoff School of Fine Arts (Moscow, 1995-1997), then at the ANKosygin State Textile University (Moscow, 1997-2000) .
Since 2002, Nadejda lives and works in Paris.

In his Paris studio of the ^14th arrondissement, where she teaches painting and drawing courses for students of all levels, Nadezhda receives us from freshly painted tables, flowers, a stuffed bird, paint pots, brushes, numerous, and various books (on the polaroid, on Bellini, on Banksy, on Elizabeth Peyton, on Boris Zaborov, an exiled compatriot artist who is dear to him). With finesse and humility, she immediately talks about painting, insisting on clarifying her technique: “ I have taken again, on canvas, the old technique of encaustic. The texture of my work is thus reminiscent of a wall fresco, and in particular has a matte surface finish. This technique allows me to create a monochrome atmosphere, of a slight blur, which surrounds the subjects of my compositions. My drawings in dry pastels and pigments on prepared paper have the inspiration and the rendering very close to that of my paintings. Having a particular interest for simple compositions, free from the superfluous, whatever the theme of the painting, I draw my inspiration from my childhood memories, among familiar images and faces, the places of my travels with a particular atmosphere, or among the simple and banal objects which have for me a distinctive importance. A work in the dry techniques of engraving completes my know-how and my mastery in the artistic field. "
