Activist of the Strasbourg graffiti movement, Jaek El Diablo has been creating works and designs influenced by urban pop culture for more than ten years. Its inspiration is nourished by graphics and typography from what could previously have been described as counter culture. In his frenzy of recovery, almost everything goes there, from cartoons and video games to record covers and movie posters. “Just as Hip Hop remixes sound, or Tarantino's films mix genres, I have fun sampling, mixing, scratching cultural references that are dear to me in order to express my own graphic style. Hip Hop culture, skateboarding and its rock heritage are an important basis of inspiration for Jaek, he spontaneously felt a sense of belonging to these urban movements. He appropriates and diverts styles, codes and icons to which he pays homage with derision and subversion. There is no desire for elitism in its approach, it is aimed at a large audience.
