Fabien Mara

Fabien Mara is a French photographer, best known for his pictures taken behind the scenes of fashion shows in the 90s. He is the first photographer to have published a book on the subject in 1998. A fashion photographer. What pushes Fabien Mara towards photography is a meeting. The meeting with a director of Condé Nast who offered him a position of assistant photo production within the American press group. He then discovers a world that he imagined secret and mysterious, the world of photo shoots. Seeing the images scroll before his eyes every day makes him want to be the one who captures them. He then became a photo director and photographer for a famous independent magazine and set sail in New York. There, he works with the greatest: Arthur Elgort, Michel Comte and Bert Stern to name a few. He photographed the backstage of fashion shows from 1991 to 1998. Having worked for 7 years behind the scenes of fashion shows during the era of “supermodels”, women are naturally at the heart of Fabien Mara's work. Not confined to the world of fashion, he has also photographed various personalities in the artistic world, actresses and artists. Today working mainly on personal projects intended to be published or exhibited, the artist now tackles other themes such as the landscape, whether urban or rural. Fabien Mara's work has won him numerous exhibitions in France in Paris, but also in Taiwan, Bogota and Prague. He has exhibited his work at Paris Photo and at Fiac, and is included in the collections of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie as well as in numerous private collections. His work has also been the subject of numerous publications, notably “Behind the Scenes of Fashion” published in 1998.
