Marcel Jean

Marcel Jean is a painter, engraver, medalist and French art historian, born in La Charité-sur-Loire on December 16, 1900, and died in Louveciennes on December 4, 1993, member in 1932 of the surrealist group and of the Association revolutionary writers and artists. Marcel Jean studied at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. He bonded with the October group. He was first a designer for fabrics. He lived in Budapest from September 1938 to 1945, where he worked for a textile factory, during which time he had no contact with the French surrealists. He resided at Villa des Arts in Paris. Marcel Jean left a varied work of canvases, etchings, decals, graphic games, cut-out cardboards, correspondence, costumes, writings, medals, photographs, rebuses, furniture, for the most part kept in Paris at the National Art Museum modern. The Peggy Guggenheim collection in Venice preserves its Profiles of Memory.
