Biography

Jean-Gilles Badaire was born in 1951, in Bourges. He now lives and works near Chambord.

As a student, he discovered the works of various surrealist artists and writers and soon started his “collage series” which were later shown for his first exhibition, by Sophie Babet in her gallery Le Triskèle, in Paris. His regular travels to Western Africa, in Mali in particular, have also played a major role in his artistic work.

Another important aspect of Jean-Gilles Badaire's career is his collaboration with major French publishers (Fata Morgana, Lettres Vives, Le temps qu’il fait…) - he often illustrates poems or short novels for them. His latest “accompagnements” or illustrations were for famous writers such as Julien Gracq, Blaise Cendrars, Marcel Griaule, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Lokenath Bhattacharya, Salah Stétié…
