Biography

Patrick Demarchelier was a French fashion photographer. Most widely known for his portraits of Princess Diana, Demarchelier was lauded internationally for the way in which he popularized her image. 

Born in 1943, Demarchelier's foray into photography began after receiving a camera as a gift from his stepfather for his 17th birthday. Over the course of his career, Demarchelier created campaigns for several of the biggest names in fashion including Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Moschino and Dior. He also produced covers for Rolling Stone, Elle, and the American, British and French editions of Vogue.

In 2008, Demarchelier was awarded the French Legion of Honor for his services to photography. He died in 2022.
