Presentation

Richard Laillier was born on April 24th, 1961. He lives and works in Paris.

A self-taught artist, Richard Laillier begins to paint and take photos in 1984 and to draw in 1990 ; he develops a unique process using black chalk, a type of dry and matte charcoal, which reminds of the mezzo-tinto. Covering an abrasive paper with black chalk, he erases and scratches, looking for the light of bodies in the black surfaces, and finally reveals light outlines and irregular surfaces which give his drawings an velvety mysterious appearance.
