French sculptor and welder COSTA transforms urban materials into vibrant sculptures, blending influences of New Realism, Pop Art, and Street Art.

Biography

Fernando Costa, known as artist COSTA, is a French sculptor and welder born on December 29, 1970 in Sarlat, Dordogne. The son of Portuguese emigrants, he began his professional career in the hotel business before devoting himself fully to art in 1998. Fascinated by contemporary art, Costa quickly found his niche by salvaging abandoned road signs to create unique sculptures. Based in Gignac, in the Lot region of France, he transforms these familiar urban materials into vibrant works that fuse the influences of the New Realists, Pop Art and Street Art.

Costa's sculptures, often narrative and humorous, captivate with their bold use of color and form. His mosaics of enameled plates, precisely assembled and skillfully welded, have become his trademark. In 2013, he joined the prestigious circle of 24 Heures du Mans artists by creating the event's official Art Car, attesting to his recognition in the field of contemporary art.

Costa also stands out for his ability to merge the past and the present in his sculptures. Using enameled metal plates, often taken from urban signage or enamel advertisements, he creates pieces that oscillate between abstraction and figuration. His exhibitions in France and abroad, notably at the Musée National Wall House in Saint-Barthélemy and the Crypte Sainte-Eugénie in Biarritz, have consolidated his reputation as an innovative and respected artist.

An established artist, Fernando Costa continues to attract growing interest from a diverse public, in both public and private collections. His unique work and ability to reinvent everyday urban life as art have made him a leading figure on the contemporary art scene.
