Henri Lebasque (1865–1937) was a French painter known for his depictions of light-filled landscapes, intimate interior scenes, and portraits, often featuring women in everyday settings. Born in Champigné, France, he studied at the École des beaux-arts in Paris and was influenced by the Post-Impressionist movement, particularly the work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, whom he admired.
A member of the Fauvist movement, Lebasque embraced vivid color and expressive brushstrokes while retaining a sense of harmony and serenity in his compositions. His paintings often captured leisurely moments, such as figures in gardens or by the sea, exuding a sense of tranquility and warmth. Lebasque's work gained recognition in France and beyond, and he exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. His legacy endures as an important figure in French modern art, particularly within the context of Post-Impressionism and Fauvism.
