Bronze Sculpture for Sale
Thierry Dehais is a French sculptor born in 1955 in Vincennes, recognized for his work on burned wood, bronze, and steel, where the material becomes the true language of form. After a three-year training as a blacksmith, he began working at the age of twenty-four as the head of a company specializing in graphic arts in Val-de-Marne. In parallel with this activity, he dedicates himself to sculpture, progressively developing a personal work influenced by the research of Alberto Giacometti and Auguste-Jean Gaudin. This dual experience, between technical mastery of materials and artistic sensitivity, constitutes the foundation of a sculptural practice based on sobriety, balance, and expressiveness.
Thierry Dehais's work is distinguished by the diversity of materials used and a constant search for the essential. He creates wood sculptures burned, bronzes, works in steel, as well as pieces combining different shaping processes. His elongated figures, often cut with a chainsaw and then intentionally subjected to fire, reveal a silent presence and great emotional force. Fire becomes a true tool of creation, modifying the texture of the wood and revealing the natural contrasts of the material. Through this unique technique, the artist highlights the fragility and power of the human figure while maintaining a remarkable economy of means.
His bronze sculptures, notably representing jazz musicians, animals, or human figures, convey a permanent search for movement and light. Thierry Dehais himself creates the patinas of his bronzes to obtain the chromatic nuances and luminous effects he desires, inherited from his experience in graphic arts. His works in steel, on the other hand, explore a more abstract register, where bends, tears, twists, and shaping testify to a direct dialogue with the metal. Each sculpture results from a true "body to body" with the material, which he exploits the physical constraints to bring forth a streamlined and expressive form.
Present in several art galleries and private collections, Thierry Dehais has been developing a coherent body of work for several decades where contemporary sculpture, bronze, burned wood, steel, figurative sculpture, minimalist sculpture, material, patina, and movement are associated in an artistic approach deeply attached to the simplicity of forms and the expressive force of the materials. His work illustrates a sensitive approach to contemporary sculpture, where each work seeks to reveal the essence of the subject through a permanent dialogue between the artist's hand and the material.
