Biography
Michel Graff was born in Paris in 1938. He lives and works in Draveil (Essonne, France). In 1959 he obtained his Diploma of Applied Arts in Paris. In 1961 he started working as an art teacher for the City of Paris. Between 1966 and 1968, he attended the painting workshop of Jac Adam in Issy les Moulineaux. In 2010 he was awarded the Prix Charles Oulmont of the Fondation de France.
For Michel Graff, painting is a vocation and a path in life. After an Applied Arts training, a few years of teaching and some years of work in an architecture office, Michel Graff's body of work has been built gradually.
Following a "passage" in the figurative, enriched by the teachings of artist Jac Adam, and after a long period of preparation, his work is free and powerful. Faced with this absolute freedom that represents the "blank page" of the canvas, the artist imposes a "framing" to his paintings, like an invisible structure that funnels the tension and the energy of the work.
The vibrant and bold colors and the subtle geometry constructed by the living forms and the abstract landscapes transmit us all the power contained in his works.
