Biography

Jonathan (John) Abbou grew up near the Palace of the Popes, imbued with a family environment full of medieval esotericism and spirituality. At 19, he got his first camera by exchanging his Perfecto for a Pentax. He obtained a double degree in clinical and pathological psychology (Paris VIII) and a photo diploma. However, he never worked as a clinical psychologist. This university path is reflected in his photographic work where the themes addressed revolve around the drives in psychoanalysis. Eros and Thanatos confront each other in each of his creations. In 1998, Jonathan Abbou published his first work Erotique Esquisses, followed by Urban Fictions. Works hailed by Art Press. Jonathan Abbou subsequently worked for Higgins Publishing. In 2009, he inaugurated his own artist residency, located in Montreuil. In 2015 founded the Rencontres Parisiennes de la Photographie Contemporaine RPPC. Of which he is an exhibition curator.
