Antoine Gamard

Antoine Gamard is a French artist, born in 1977 in Paris. He graduated from the Fine Arts school in Paris.

In 2010, he moved to Toulouse and developed an abstract style, based on overlaying patterns and writings. Tags take control of the canvas, in such a way that reading becomes a laborious task, a riddle where one can't find the usual bearings. Letter might be the basis of language, but it gets caught up in a game of fusion between shape and content, where there aren't any frontiers between the distinctive and the meaningful. Gamard shares a sensitive experience, filled with images and emotions. By overlapping the significant with the signified, he tries to mix form and content, the tags makes room for senses. Language can go beyond just speaking, it's no longer a simple object.

Figurative style comes back in 2015. Gamard includes a kingdom of animals who are depicted as surrealist collages, in an urban decor filled with graffiti. A dreamlike world where marvel confronts creation, and opposes our contemporaneity. An opposition on the outside, as these two elements have an ephemeral character. The outlines turn white, they are a blank page, completely absent whereas graffiti retrieve their colors and the ghost of nature emerges, with piled up meanings that make you dizzy.

From an aesthetic point of view, Antoine Gamard tries to give his painting an elaborated and harmonious look, so that it's simply a delightful object.
