Presentation

Painter, photographer and screen printer, Julien Peschard has been interested in art since his youth and devotes his free time to the practice and experimentation of painting and drawing. At 17, he joined workshops in Paris to train with his teachers, before being admitted to the University of the Sorbonne, where he obtained a Master in Plastic Arts and Art Sciences. Divided between creation and transmission, Julien Peschard creates mixed paintings, combining several techniques, which represent panoramic views of urban landscapes where no human figure appears. The masses of the buildings stand out with each touch of paint and the shapes are refined: no window, antenna, fireplace or other element distracts the gaze and thought. This economy of means evokes a synthesized image of the city as a disproportionate entity in front of which human beings understand their own fragility and experience the feeling of the sublime. He works mainly with a knife, applying each color in such a way as to create effects of light and depth and using each addition of material to constitute his buildings. The traces of movements made by the knife or the brush remain visible, the touch is thick, which gives the paintings an unfinished aspect, close to photographic blur. The knife seems to simultaneously deposit several colors, trapped in the material, which make the surface vibrate. This work with material offers an almost sculptural dimension to his paintings and the viewer can reconstruct by thought each addition of material made by the painter. Julien Peschard's works invite you to wander through the cities, to walk the avenues and alleys that one imagines between the touches of color that form the buildings and to lose yourself in the depth of the field. These cities, made of squares and rectangles in relief, respond to a layout which tries to give meaning to the space of the city but above all which endeavor to reveal the life that inhabits it. The mosaics of restricted colors, both structured and chaotic, seem to be in motion and their large relief further accentuates this sensation. Julien Peschard has won several prizes, including the “Grand Prix” at the Mantes-la-Jolie International Fair and the “Arbustes” Young Talent Prize at the Paris Salon d'Automne in 2018.
