Biography
Stéphane Calais is an atypical figure of contemporary art. The artist claims a touch - to - everything side and varied influences. Tales, legends and popular icons are revisited and blended into a universe that combines abstraction and f iguration. “The 'atypical' side attached to me surprised me for a long time, affirms Stéphane Calais. I only view the parts in a way that is effective in relation to my commitments. Of course, drawing, my primary tool, allows me to navigate the different fields it crosses: that is to say all of them. The questions which then arise according to the mediums used (painting, wall drawings, collages of objects or images ...) are classic questions, But it is in their meeting, their proximity that tensions are played out, ellipses or shortcuts.
