Born in the Parisian area in 1939, Jean Pierre Raynaud is a French visual artist. In 1958, he obtained a degree in horticulture and began his military service.

The work that maked the beginning of his career was his house in La Celle Saint-Cloud, entirely covered with white tiles. He lived there for 24 years before destroying it. A self-taught artist, he has an obsession for traffic signs and for pots of flowers filled with concrete, which are the source of several of his pieces. Those one are available in all sort of sizes and colors, according to the artist's inspiration.

Jean-Pierre Raynaud's career started in 1964 in Paris at the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture. The following year he did first solo exhibition in a gallery. He did several afterwards and exhibited all around the world, in Sao Paulo, New York and Beijing. Numerous public and privative institutions demanded his work. He created la Carte du Ciel in the four gardens of La Grande Arche de la Defense, 1 600 square meters in white marble and black granite. In 1994, he contructed a nuclear vault on the ceiling of the Museum du Louvre. His pieces are part of collections at the Cartier Foundation and at the Center Pompidou, and were the object of a retrospective organized by the National Gallery of Jeu de Paume. Finally, Jean Pierre Raynaud's work was rewarded with the grand prize of sculpture by the city de Paris (1986) and with a prize by the UNESCO at the Havana Biennale.
