Biography
After studying History and Archaeology in Paris, she joined the Textile Future Master's program at Central Saint Martins School in London, graduating in 2012. Sabatina Leccia then worked for haute couture as an embroiderer, a formative experience in her relationship to gesture and material.
Since 2015, the artist has developed a multifaceted artistic practice, exploring various mediums to unfold her poetic and dreamlike universe. Her work gives form to inner landscapes, constructed with slow, meticulous gestures. Coming from the world of embroidery, she takes up her embroidery needle to pierce the paper of her drawings or photographs, highlighting details and bringing forth fragile and sensitive images. Through her photographs, conceived as an extension of her drawings, Sabatina Leccia reworks color and texture to capture reality, transform it, and transport us to another realm. At the intersection of art and craft, her practice has led her to collaborate with numerous organizations and associations, including La Fabrique Nomade, the Académie Française, the Art Exprim association, and La Source, founded by Gérard Garouste. In 2022, the artist collaborated with photographer Clara Chichin and received the Transverse 2022 Grant, with support from ADAGP and the Freelens association. Their work was also selected for the 2023 Biennale de l'Image Tangible, and they developed their project, Le Bruissement entre les murs (The Rustling Between the Walls), during a residency at Capsule 93.
