Presentation

Berg is a Swiss painter whose discretion only equals his talent. Under the pseudonym of “Berg", mountain in the language of Goethe, hides an alpine artist enchanted by the summit's beauty. The man did not embrace his name by chance, he becomes the mountain and sleeps in its arms lulled by the breath of the foehn, taming its friendly reliefs with his brush. In the heart of the Swiss mountains, Berg set down his easel. His existence is relatively frugal for men but rich in encounters: those of the elements and of beauty in its purest form.

A renowned specialist in grisaille, Berg manages to infuse his pictorial technique with an unrivaled life force. The preference of monochrome allows the artist to express the depth of rocks and the brilliance of the eternal snows through a daring play of chiaroscuro. Traditionally used to paint truer than life bas-reliefs, grisaille requires a great technical mastery that Berg has made his own. If the realism of his works impress, there is no question of deceiving his public's eye. The artist whishes above all to render on his canvas the beauty, the truth of the mountain and its visitors with admiration marked by the deepest respect. The majestic shadow of the Matterhorn, the silhouettes of the slate roofs or the forest paths drenched in light call us to a walk.

Ambience and portraits of characters in a spirit freely inspired by the eighteenth-century style complete the panorama of this rare artist whose works are praised by international collectors. His young girls with a porcelain complexion, eyes delicately lowered, reveal another facet of the artist. His tenderness and poetry are hidden behind an apparent roughness, beyond the granite massifs, between light and shadow: in the image of his art.
