Fernand Louis Gottlob

Fernand-Louis Gottlob, born in Paris 4th on February 23, 1873, and died in Paris 9th on November 10, 1935, is a French painter, illustrator and engraver.

Fernand-Louis Gottlob studied painting and drawing with, among others, Gaston Jobbé-Duval. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1891 and signed his works "F. Gottlob".

His first engravings are published in L'Estampe moderne, while his caricatures and cartoons find their place in Le Frou-frou, L'Assiette aueurre, Le Rire, Le Sourire, Le Journal rire, Nos loisirs, Rabelais, etc. illustrates a few books.

He made a few artistic posters from 1899. Jules Chéret reproduced two of them in his magazine Les Maîtres de l'Affiche (1895-1900), namely the one for the 2nd Exhibition of Painters-Lithographs of which he is a part, and the one for the edition of the Salon des Cent of December 1899 dedicated to him.

In 1904, he became a member of the artistic and literary society Le Cornet, until his death. He then made a few erotic images, but most of all, he illustrated musical scores for musicals (including Triplepatte by Tristan Bernard).

In 1916, he opened a Parisian poster production workshop at 6 rue Saulnier, resolutely focused on the war effort.
