Michèle Jarnoux

France

Biography

Michèle Jarnoux is a French, self-taught ceramist. In 1995, during an internship she was introduced to clay and has been using this material for the last 20 years. In 2011, Michele Jarnoux decided to open her own studio in Chartres where each piece is unique and completely handmade by the artist.

Michele Jarnoux draws her inspiration from nature. I treat porcelain and sandstone by handling the material in an innovative way, sometimes inviting molten glass in the ceramic sculptures. She is constantly searching for effects of textures and of matter allowing her to express herself in other ways and to create a singular work full of poetry. Her works remind us of a mineral world and a marine universe. The effects of the material occupy a main place in her work, and it is this textured earthenware, finely engraved, incised and striated, which will give personality and mystery to the work.
