Biography
Trained at the Beaux Arts in Dakar, he has been an art teacher in a college since 2007, his work has been presented many times at the French Institute of Saint-Louis.
He began his artistic life with figurative painting then naturally slipped towards abstraction, which for him represents “free writing".
As he often says, the work of art is the fruit of a long, exhausting and even painful process. His painting treats his subjects and the material in the same way and we feel the tactile aspect displayed by the texture of the canvas.
According to Moctar, his existence emanates from the act of painting, which for him is an absolute and mysterious need or necessity.
"The emotional and sentimental content of a canvas, whether conscious or not, is far too personal but can be partially shared".
