Biography

Tadashi Kawamata was born in Japan in 1953. He lives and works in Paris and Tokyo. A graduate of Hokkaido Iwamizawa Higashi High School and Tokyo University of the Arts, his site-specific works gained worldwide recognition early on. He exhibited at the age of 28 at the Venice Biennale, at the Documenta in Cassel in 1987, and directed the Yokohama Triennial in 2005. His work reveals the invisible part of architectural spaces, both natural and urban, by emphasizing their social dimension. He is interested in human relations in order to mature his work and his artistic research.
