Biography
Antonietta Raphael Mafai was born in Lituania in 1895. In 1924, she moved to Rome, where she became one of the most important exponents of the Roman School, and where she met Mario Mafai, who was to become her husband. In her artistic career, she distinguished herself for her adherence to an anti-academic conception about artistic production. She can be considered the real precursor of Transavantgarde art.
