Serene landscapes marked by subtle disruption.
Biography
Carolien Beekman (1964) graduated in 2017 as an autonomous photographer from the Photo Academy in Amsterdam. Her work mainly consists of landscapes and still lifes, always containing an element of friction or tension. Her themes often revolve around contrasts, sometimes subtly, sometimes deliberately manipulated within the image.
Her work can be richly colorful or very restrained, depending on the choices she makes. The continuous core theme throughout her practice is “Disturbance in Tranquility.” Beekman draws inspiration from her travels both in the Netherlands and abroad. Her images are vulnerable yet powerful — the longer you look, the more they reveal.
Alongside her autonomous work, she creates commissioned projects in her distinctive style and also produces voluntary photographic reports for her local community.
