Biography
Evert den Hartog succeeds in giving form to his ornate statues by using bronze; the cold material becomes alive thanks to the beautiful patina. The statues look like stone or wood, but their balancing on one foot or floating through the air with a wing pointing skyward makes us understand that this is not possible. The humour in Evert’s work is subtle and gives the stilled figures an extra dimension. He is not only a praised sculpturist in the Netherlands – he also receives worldwide recognition.
