Biography

Mohammed Al-Hawajri is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist whose work responds to war, political violence, displacement, and everyday life in Gaza. Working across painting, photography, video, design, and installation, he combines familiar imagery with unconventional materials, irony, and visual contradiction to question the representation of conflict and its effects on ordinary life. His practice transforms experiences of violence and uncertainty into critical reflections on memory, survival, and the human condition.

Born in the Al-Bureij refugee camp in Gaza in 1976, Al-Hawajri studied fine arts in Gaza and later studied under Marwan Kassab-Bachi at Darat al-Funun in Jordan. In 2002, he co-founded the Eltiqa Group for Contemporary Art in Gaza and has since participated in numerous international exhibitions and residencies, including documenta fifteen. His major projects include Guernica-Gaza, Animal Farm, Cactus Borders, and SURVIVING (AYSHEEN). Al-Hawajri currently lives and works in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, while maintaining a practice closely connected to Gaza.
