Abed Abdi is a Palestinian visual artist and art educator born in Haifa in 1942. For more than six decades, he has worked across diverse media while contributing to the preservation and expression of Arab culture and Palestinian identity.
Abdi’s practice is deeply connected to Palestinian history, struggle, and collective memory. He is particularly known for his illustrations, wood engravings, and monumental public works commemorating key moments in Palestinian history, including the Land Day monument in Sakhnin.
His work has been exhibited widely in Palestine and internationally. He received the Young Artist’s Award at the Berlin International Youth Festival in 1971 and was awarded the Herman Struck Best Artist of the Year Prize twice, in 1973 and 1999. Abdi founded Arabelle Visual Arts Workshop in Haifa and co-founded IBDAA Association for Arts Development in Arab Society. He lives and works in Haifa.
