Description
A human figure rises in a dark space. It seems suspended, carried by a white drapery that unfolds like a wing. The composition plays on a marked contrast between the depth of the midnight blue background and the clarity of the character. The movement is fluid, almost aerial.
At the bottom of the image, a horizontal band suggests a terrestrial landscape. Touches of green, ochre, and yellow draw geometric patches. This fragmented ground anchors the scene in a precise geographical reality.
This 193 print explores the theme of ascent and fall. The line is precise, mixing graphic rigor and poetic sensitivity. The visual balance emphasizes the tension between the desire to soar and the heaviness of the world. The print technique allows here a subtle superposition of colors and textures. The gaze travels from the multicolored ground to the white silhouette that fades into the darkness.
Presentation
Abed Abdi is a Palestinian visual artist whose work explores displacement, memory, identity, resistance, and the social and political history of Palestinian life. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, and murals, he combines figurative and expressive forms to document experiences of exile, loss, labour, and attachment to place. His practice views art as a means of preserving collective memory and affirming Palestinian cultural identity.
Born in Haifa in 1942, Abdi was displaced with his family during the Nakba before returning to Haifa. He studied painting and sculpture in Haifa and later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany, specialising in mural and graphic art. Since returning to Haifa in the 1970s, he has worked as an artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and educator, participating in numerous exhibitions and producing murals and public artworks in Palestine and internationally. Abdi lives and works in Haifa, where he continues his artistic and educational practice.
