Biography

Mohamed Saleh Khalil is a Palestinian artist whose practice moves between abstraction, expressionism, and figuration, exploring human experience, identity, and the emotional dimensions of Palestinian life. Working primarily with painting and printmaking, he uses expressive brushwork, colour, and distortion to move beyond direct representation and create an emotional interpretation of reality. His practice reflects a sustained engagement with Palestinian identity and with painting as a form of personal and cultural expression.

Born in Jordan in 1960 to a Palestinian family from Al-Walaja, Khalil grew up in Damascus and studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany, completing his master’s degree in 1988. He exhibited in Damascus and Nicosia before returning to Palestine, where he established his studio in Ramallah and founded the Visual Arts Forum, an organisation that is focused on visual arts education. His work has been exhibited widely in Palestine and internationally, and he has received several awards, including the Jury Prize at the Alexandria Biennale. Khalil continues to live and work in Ramallah until today.
