Biography

Paulina Stasik (born 1990 in Rzeszów) is a painter living and working in Kraków. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she received her diploma in 2015 from the studio of Professor Leszek Misiak. In 2020, she completed her PhD at the same institution. While her practice focuses primarily on painting, she also creates objects from resin and ceramics, as well as films.

Her paintings emerge through a process of applying successive glazing layers of paint. The central theme of her work is the body, understood as a vessel for spiritual, sexual, and cultural energy. Her representations address issues of identity. Stasik's paintings create a kind of mythology in which the key concepts are body awareness, compassion, and empathy.

The artist examines the body as both an object of tenderness and an item of “consumerist" culture. She imbues her works with both an erotic aura and spiritual strength. Her art balances between the real and the symbolic.

Paulina Stasik has held numerous solo exhibitions, including: Skin in the Game at Lyles & King in New York (2024), Stones at Raster Gallery in Warsaw (2023), Protectresses at Raster Gallery (2021), Promieniowanie ciszy (Radiation of Silence) at Wozownia Gallery in Toruń (2020), Desire for Wholeness at Shefter Gallery in Kraków (2019), as well as Crocodile Tears and Your Heart in My Brain (2018). Her works are included in museum collections and are presented in exhibitions abroad.
