I shift reality just enough to reveal what lies beneath it — a world of quiet surrealism, inner silence and unexpected beauty where the unfamiliar can simply exist.

Biography

Nina Timoshenko creates paintings in which familiar reality quietly slips into the impossible. Working with a deliberately simple, almost naive visual language, she transforms ordinary objects, figures and situations into unexpected relationships: apples become blue, camels walk on water, and human figures appear strangely ungrounded.

Beneath this apparent simplicity lies an introspective practice exploring inner silence, duality and the experience of being out of sync with the surrounding world. Timoshenko uses poetic surrealism not as an escape from reality, but as a way of revealing the psychological states hidden beneath everyday experience.

Her paintings exist between the familiar and the irrational, where ordinary images acquire a second, more ambiguous meaning. The apparent simplicity of her compositions contrasts with an underlying psychological tension, creating a visual language that is both accessible and open to interpretation.

Rather than explaining difference or “otherness", Timoshenko creates a world in which it can simply exist. Her paintings invite the viewer to enter this slightly displaced reality and recognise something deeply familiar within it.
